Our Story
Chasing Foxes Farm has grown from a love for good food. From a time even before we met, my wife Heidi and I shared a passion for eating well. After meeting at the University Of Vermont, we spent the next two decades discovering and growing our love of food and place together. We explored the world and found that each adventure, while all very different, shared a common thread of seeking out delicious and nourishing local cuisine. Our wanderlust took us internationally and inspired us to spend several years cruising much of the country in a self-made and self contained school bus conversion. The time we spent living on the bus was dedicated to exploring small farms, homesteads and local food systems scattered across the United States. These experiences and experiments amplified our desire to grow more of our own food in a more sustainable way.
The story has come full circle as we returned to our northeastern roots and settled on 82 beautiful acres of pasture and forest in Brookfield Vermont. Now married with two young boys, we are constructing our own vision of an off-grid, solar powered, homestead and farm.
The fox is a revered and sacred animal in many cultures across the world and so it is with us. While we have literally chased many of these cunning creatures from our space (our poultry space especially), the majestic sighting of the fox has also guided and inspired us all along the way. Though our path has been anything but straight, we will continue chasing foxes all the way to the end.
